This course covers the key competencies required in order to safely and correctly install both Air and Ground Source Heat Pump systems.

 

The course is recognised as a demonstration of competence for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) having been developed in association with GSHPA (Ground Source Heat Pump Association). It is also NOS and QCF Mapped.

 

The course and manual cover:

  • Heat pumps in context.
  • How a Heat pump works – principles and components
  • Insulation, heat losses and the effect of heating system design
  • Domestic hot water, buffer tanks and solar coils
  • Ground heat exchangers
  • Health and Safety
  • Heat pump installation
  • Maintenance and fault finding
  • Plus an appendix containing reference charts for ground heat exchanger design.

Pre-Requisites:

Trainees should have a minimum NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or a demonstrable number of years of relevant experience, plus Water Regulations/Byelaws and Energy Efficiency certificates.
